What’s the difference between an AI-generated headshot and a real one?
AI headshots can look polished at first glance, but they often feel off. They miss the subtle connection, natural expression, and real-world lighting that make a portrait believable. Clients, casting directors, and colleagues can tell. A real headshot isn’t just a face... it’s a moment of connection that builds trust. That’s not something AI can fake.

Why should I hire a professional headshot photographer?
A pro brings technical expertise, people and lighting skills, and an eye for how you want to be perceived. A professionally shot and retouched photo stands out on LinkedIn, a company site, or in casting submissions. It conveys confidence, credibility, and polish and yes, it’s worth the investment.
How do I book a session?
Easy, You just email me, tell me a little about what you need, and we’ll find a date that works.I don’t use an online booking portal because I like to keep things personal. Once we confirm a time, I’ll send over a confirmation email with clothing tips, grooming notes, and everything you need to feel prepared. What’s the difference between a headshot and a business portrait?
A headshot is typically a tight crop showing shoulders and up, focused on expression. A business portrait may include more of the torso or a work environment...great for personal branding or team bios. It adds personality and visual storytelling.
How long does a headshot session take?
Actors and business folks have different needs. For actors, this is their resume, so I build in more time and direction. Executive sessions typically run about 30 minutes, enough to capture a strong range of expressions and wardrobe tweaks. Business clients are often less camera-savvy, but if we get the shot early, we’re done! One of the advantages of shooting directly into my laptop is that we can preview everything in real time. For group sessions, each person takes about 5 to 10 minutes. A half-day covers 20 to 30 people comfortably.
What should I wear for a headshot session?
Choose solid, flattering colors that complement your skin tone. Avoid bold patterns or logos. Fit matters, tailored clothing photographs better. Bring multiple looks, like a fitted jacket or layered pieces, and we can switch during the session if needed. When in doubt, bring it! When you book with me, I include helpful tips on clothing and grooming in your shoot confirmation email.
Can I use my smartphone for a headshot?
You can try, but a selfie rarely looks polished or consistent. Natural light helps, but phones distort perspective and lack control. A pro session brings clean lighting, subtle direction, and consistency and that makes all the difference.
How often should I update my headshot?
Every 2 to 3 years is a good rule. Or sooner if your look changes, haircut, glasses, or role. A current photo builds trust. It says, “this is who I am now.”
What makes a great headshot?
Clean, natural-looking lighting. Simple backgrounds. Subtle retouching. The best headshots show your real self: confident, relaxed, and professional. Do I own the images after the shoot?
Yes, you get the final retouched images with full usage rights for your website, LinkedIn, marketing, or email. I don’t hold proofs hostage and there are no hidden licensing traps. That said, third-party commercial use does require permission. One time I saw an actor’s headshot I took on a shaving cream tube at Duane Reade...definitely outside the scope of use!
What if I feel awkward in front of the camera?
Totally normal. I guide you with calm coaching and small adjustments so you feel comfortable, not posed. You don’t need any experience. I’ll give you real context, not just “smile.” In fact, I never use the S-word!
Do you offer studio and location sessions in NYC?
Yes, I shoot in my Chelsea studio or on location: your office, rooftop, favorite neighborhood, or conference room. On-location shoots work great for teams or professionals who want context and flexibility. For executive teams and business portraits, I also offer dedicated corporate sessions through my companion site, Corporate-Headshots.com.
